YOY Year over Year. This is used to compare current performance versus the previous years.

Our take: Using Year over Year comparison, investors can have a sense on whether financial condition is improving or worsening.

 

YTD: Year To Date; refers to the period of beginning on the 1st January until current.

Our take: YTD is used to describe return for the current year.
 

Yellow Knight: A company that was once discussing an option to takeover a company but wind up discussing a merger with the target

Yield : Yield is the the annual rate of return of any investment

Our take: Yield is expressed as a percentage
 

Yield Curve: A graph depicting the interest rates of a bond having equal credit quality but with different maturity dates.

Our take: Yield curve can give some idea on future interest rates trend.
 
Yield Spread: The difference of yield between different debt instrument
Our take: Yield spread can be used as a comparative purpose on how investors perceived the debt instrument
 
Yield to Maturity: The rate of return expected on a bond if it is held to maturity
Our take: Yield to maturity is a complex calculation which may require programmable business calculator 
 
Yo yo: A slang for an up and down market
Our take: Just like a Yo Yo's up and down movement
