Microsoft Looks Soft - 03/22/2006 |
| By: Novice Investing Staff |
| Microsoft was the stock to own in the 80s and the 90s. Everybody was dreaming of finding the next Microsoft, which portrays the rise of small invisible company into a big dominant software giant flushed with cash. Nowadays, everybody wants to find the next Google, not Microsoft. In fact, nobody wants to find Microsoft itself. | |
| The reason is sensible. For the last few years, Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) has managed to disappoint investors every now and then. From the failed broadband project, less appealing tablet PC, the death of .Net platform and then there is this. | |
| The latest blow came when Microsoft announced that it will have to delay the release of its consumer Vista operating system until January of 2007. That will be a huge blow to the company since they meant to release it during the second half of 2006, in time for holiday season. With most retailers' sales came during the fall season, you can imagine how much sales would be lost by delaying its consumer version Vista by a mere few weeks. | |
| If you heard this development a few years back, you will know that this is not the first time Microsoft pushed back its new window operating system. Back in 2002, Microsoft expected its new operating system, codenamed Longhorn, to be released in the middle of 2005. It has now changed the name of its upcoming window operating system into Vista. Well, changing name still doesn't change a thing for Microsoft. With its latest pushback, one might wonder whether Microsoft has run out of idea to innovate in the PC arena. Our suspicion is that even when it is released, window Vista might not deliver what you might expect from Microsoft. | |
